Since 2019, “ Music from east and west” series concerts have been successfully staged 6 times at Columbia University in New York. Last week, on Thursday October 6th, the first concert of this series in 2022-2023 season has been held. Attracting more than hundreds live audiences and online audiences, this series of concerts once again successfully brought a wonderful performance to friends who love music with its powerful content.

Leading by composer Keyin Lou, “ Music from east and west” series concerts aim to share the thinking of different understandings of music between China and the West. From the perspectives of young Chinese composers and young American composers, different musical concepts are displayed through the same theme, and new sparks are collided.

The concert opened with a piano solo work “Moment I” by Keyin Lou.The piece was composed in late 2019 based on the composer's homesickness and was revised during the 2020 pandemic. This pandemic has not only affected the world in terms of life, but also changed many important event plans such as the Hangzhou Asian Games originally scheduled to be held in 2022. “ I want to dedicate the performance to the rescheduled 2023 Asian Games in my hometown of Hangzhou. Even if I'm far across the Atlantic, I can cheer for the Asian Games in my own way.” said Keyin. It is worth mentioning that the pianist ziyi Yang who performed this piece also made the premiere of this work three years ago.The following program was completed by three piano trios composed by three composers, Keyin Lou, Julian Bennett Holmes, and Yike Zhang. Violinist Da Huang, cellist Li Pang and pianists Ziyi Yang, Julian bennett Holmes completed the performance perfectly and received unanimous praise from the audience.

The concert was held under the strong support of SCIMA "Song Yun China" International Music Alliance and Columbia University.Founded in New York, USA in 2022, SCIMA is committed to the musical expression and world dissemination of Chinese culture, shaping Chinese musical cultural symbols, and promoting international musical cultural exchanges and cooperation.
